Australia’s last Holden muscle car. Chevrolet SS, the one made by Holden in Australia, is gone forever and there is just one final muscle car to commemorate the finish.
Announcing the Holden HSV GTSR W1 a right-hand drive ‘Chevy SS’ powered by a ZR-1.
Australia’s performance car company, HSV (Holden Special Vehicles), has just released a limited run of the most powerful, (and last), Holden ever built. It’s limited because there are only 300 of this high performance thoroughbred, and because Holden has closed all manufacturing in Australia, it is the last muscle car ever to be produced in Australia by Holden.
The pony car is already a classic with all 300 sold on release, and one already fetching nearly AUD $300,000 at auction!
Why is it so special?
America’s current top of the line sports sedan is the Chevrolet SS which is built in Australia by Holden, Australia’s General Motors owned manufacturer. With Holden closing it’s manufacturing in Australia, there won’t be any more Chevrolet SS like the current model. The release of the GTSR W1 marks the end of Australia’s muscle car era spanning more than 50 years.
HSV took there proven performance enhancements from the ground up, included a supercharged LS9 engine with carbon fiber cold air intake and 16 inch diameter front rotors, 14.5 inch rear rotors squeezed by 6 piston APR Racing callipers.
20 inch rims are rounded off with Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R Track tires. These are the nearest thing to racing slicks but still usable on road. Fronts are 265/35 R20, rears are 295/30 R20 providing genuine race style road handling.
Suspension is also ramped up to the max! The system is developed by Walkinshaw’s race experience and includes ‘Supashock’ dampers as used in the Walkinshaw team’s Supercars racing series but refined for on-road driving.
